I recently heard the expression "salt and Light" referenced in regards to a philosophy of life.  What a wonderful use of imagery.
I think this would be a wonderful theme for a series. Hmmmm

The Year of the Dress

The Year of the Dress

Sometimes a project takes over your life. My daughter married this past summer and asked me to make THE DRESS.
She didn't want any dress, she desired a reproduction design of 17th century with modern leanings. So began our odyssey first into historical costuming books, the quest for fabrics and finally construction and embellishments.

Intermediate Machine Quilting Workshop

doodlebird two

Doodlebird one
Another great group of machine quilters were in my Machine Quilting Level Two class yesterday at Covered Bridge Quiltery.
I was pleased to see nearly everyone choosing the DoodleBird 2 design for their piece.  These quilted samplers are based upon sketches from my sketchbook.  Each of the birds begin life as around 2 inches tall and end up fitting a fat quarter of fabric.

Greetings everyone.  Don't you love our spring weather, another 45 minutes of shoveling yesterday and today the wind sounds like a tornado out there as the wind chill harbors in minus digits.  The only good thing about the winter we've had in Atlantic Canada is that when the storms blow we don't feel any guilt at retreating into the sewing room while soup mellows in the crock pot.
I've just finished several great workshops at the Quiltery in Riverview, one in beginner machine quilting and the second in beginner thread painting. This coming Saturday I'm looking forward to teaching for the Sackville Quilt Guild "Dad's Pineapple".  Love this quilt and workshop.  I've worked with the Sackville Quilters before and haven't met a more delightful group to share the day with.  I believe there are a few spots left if you wish to join us.
