SAQA

I don't know where the time has gone!  How many of us have cried the same lament?  My son's step son the other day looked at me with his beautiful eyes and neverending questions and said "what does  life mean".  There's nothing like a 3 1/2 year old  to cut to the core of things.  Now granted he wasn't really asking the meaning of life.  He had just heard the word and wanted to know what it meant.  My reply was life is what you are doing every moment of every day.  So with that wisdom  we once again can ask "Where has the time gone?"  I've always loved the mental picture of the three Fates, Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos.  This Greek mythology lesson teaches us of spinning, drawing and cutting the threads of life which form the tapestry of our life.  So every moment of every day counts!

Having come to this conclusion I need to look over the last few months and decide what have I done.  Yes like everyone, I've been involved in family threads both woven and cut and everything this entails.  I've been involved in my day job and my fun job of teaching quilting.  Both these jobs soak up time like a sponge and give us fodder for our tapestry and it's how we face these threads which determines the beauty of our weaving.  I have been able to take some time for me.  I like to think there's a golden thread of design weaving through my picture as it forms. Surrounding ourselves with others who are weaving their own designs in fabric and art stimulates that desire to produce.  Such a group is the Atlantic region of  SAQA.http://saqaatlanticcanada.blogspot.ca

I finally was able to attend a general meeting last week and truly feel part of a group which "gets it" when we talk about the need to design and play and work with fibres and paint.  The need to create sits apart from the  process of doing.  Therein lies the difference between a group such as this and our Quilt Guilds. Don't get me wrong, I love the interaction of our quilt guilds, however to often they are geared to the beginner and one can only grow when they are challenged by the energy and creativity around them.  There is definitely room for both in my tapestry.
